Across from the hotel and listed as a historical building, the hotel particulier of Madame de Maintenon is where the illegitimate children of Madame de Montespan, King Louis the 14th’s mistress, were raised.

HotelsT is a family business regrouping six hotels, five in Paris and one in Siena. Our concept is based on a unique equilibrium between design and boutique hotels. We offer a friendly, cozy and creative atmosphere in a refined and detailed ensemble. Our hotels display a wide range of extraordinary objects and art pieces from all around the world. The hotels’ collection is constantly replenished with a modern twist.
Our philosophy is to offer a personalized experience, an intellectual voyage and a call to each one’s curiosity with exceptional accommodation and service. We want to make our guests feel like they are home while they fully experience Paris. HotelsT happily organize themes packages on demand as well as full assistance right from the airport.
Their unique character coupled with their exceptional locations in the heart of the historical Paris (Saint-Germain des Prés and the 8th district) and in the heart of the old city of Siena make these hotels the perfect escapade that our guests will remember and share with their friends and family.
The boutique Hotel Les Jardins du Luxembourg is located in a town house built in a typical Haussmann style in polished dimension stone from the quarries of Paris, large windows and balconies with unusual balustrades.
Less than a minute’s walk from the Luxembourg Gardens, the hotel is in a lovely calm cul-de-sac, a dead end small street that already existed in the 16th century and was known as the “La Madeleine”, between the rue Gay Lussac and Boulevard Saint-Michel. Across the hotel is a large house, classified as a Historical Monument: this is where Madame de Maintenon took care of Madame de Montespan’s illegal children, when she was one of King Louis 14th’s favorites. In later years, Madame de Maintenon became the last secret wife of the sun king.
At this time the Luxembourg Gardens reached all the way to our street as the Boulevard Saint-Michel did exist there yet. It was probably for the calm and its setting that Sigmund Freud chose to stay in our hotel in June 1885 (known then as Hôtel de la Paix). It is during this trip to Paris that Freud met with Professor Jean-Martin Charcot (a neurologist and specialist on hypnosis at the Salpétrière hospital) who influenced him greatly in his definition and development of psychoanalysis.
There are 24 rooms spread out over the six floors of this hotel (we have a nice elevator!) and there are two extra rooms on the ground floor of the neighboring building.
Walk into our reception area and you will immediately be charmed by the place – the staff is friendly and helpful, the setting is attractive, with an old style bar from the early 20th century with a zinc top and decorated with hop flowers.

The Lounge and Courtesy Bar
Feeling like home is a core philosophy of the Jardins du Luxembourg. Our guests when they stay with us often come and relax in our lounge areas while waiting for a taxi or before going up to their rooms. Next to the front desk, you could choose to sit in one of the 19th century armchairs, in Chinese style; an authentic Japanese piece of antique furniture that was used for the tea ceremony, has been turned into the bar where you can help yourself to a drink or an expresso coffee (from Nespresso; What Else?!).
Should you wish, you can go into one of our other lounge areas, our Little Salon.
Calm and style reign here – the hotel looks over a very quiet road and the salon walls are covered in decorated fabric from Les Olivades, who first started printing fabric in 1648 in Provence! On the walls, antique engravings by Alfred Morel-Fatio (a former member of the French Institute and Professor at the College de France). It is the ideal place to read the newspapers, enjoy one of the magazines on offer, or work on your computer…

The Boutique Hotel Jardins du Luxembourg is situated in the heart of the Latin Quarter. It is in the 5th arrondissement and very close to the 6th on the left bank.
The university La Sorbonne is nearby and this area is known as the Latin Quarter since the students used to converse in Latin. All around the hotel are numerous bookshops and publishing houses, but also a wide choice of cafés and restaurants.
